Track Chair

In a perfect world there would be no wars. Since human nature is far from flawless, consisting of greed and evil mixed with kindness, compassion, goodness and a continued hope for peace we strive for common good.

Sacrifices are part of our daily lives, some are expected, and some done unconsciously. We perform them for our children and families. We sacrifice for our jobs. We relinquish time to help friends and neighbors. But our military sacrifice their lives.

What about the soldier, the warrior? These are the heroes that sacrifice everything to keep us safe, their lives, futures and their family’s future in order to protect us. Those who are affected so negatively while performing their duties should never be forgotten.

According to information released due to the Freedom of Information Act more than 600,000 veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan alone are permanently suffering. They have become partially or totally disabled from physical or psychological wounds. A significant percentage of these all-volunteer defenders of freedom have undertaken 2, 3 & 4 deployments.

We can never repay these brave men and woman for what they have sacrificed and lost on the battlefields. But, we feel a deep obligation to help our heroes through the reality of the battle that will last for the rest of their lives.

The Sons of the American Legion, Manoa Post 667 located at 1112 Steel Road in Havertown wanted to give back to our veterans and their families. They sponsor a yearly golf outing and hold various other fundraisers to support our veterans. Through their efforts and the generosity of 86 golfers and over 60 local contractors, businesses and personal sponsors, the Sons raised enough to purchase a $16,000 all terrain track chair custom made for the individual’s special needs. Now a hero and champion, who will never walk again, will be able to navigate mountain roads, hiking trails, cross shallow muddy snow covered streams and much more. Imagine the ability to take your children fishing or lift from a sitting position to a standing position at the push of a button. To quote one recipient “The ability to communicate with others at eye level or perform tasks on my own is a sense of freedom I thought was gone forever”.

The Sons would like to thank everyone that sponsored, golfed and worked to make the event successful. They plan to raise even more money in 2017 to help our veterans and their families. The next golf outing will be held Friday April 21, 2017. If you are interested in sponsoring us please email the Sons at post667.sons@gmail.com
