Who Is Eligible?

Male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of The American Legion may be eligible for membership in the Sons of the American Legion.

Male descendants of honorably discharged veterans who are deceased may also qualify when the veteran’s military service meets American Legion eligibility requirements.

Eligibility is reviewed and certified as part of the membership application process.

Dual Membership

Many men are members of both The American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion.

Some began as young members of the Sons and later became eligible for The American Legion through their own military service. These individuals are known as dual members.

Dual membership provides another way to honor both your family’s service and your own service to the nation.
